Hello everyone. I am a new member who is recently addicted. I am about to buy my first fishing kayak after reading that article about the merits of kayak fishing in this months Trailer Boat Fisherman. To say it got me excited was an understatement. I look forward to sharing my kayak fishing experiences with you all and hope I can ask you for the answer to whatever is currently perplexing me once I get a yak and get out there.

Regards yakfisherman

Welcome aboard Yakfisherman,

We look forward to seeing your yak and some fish. Have you decided what yak you are getting? Try to paddle a few different ones first if you can. All yaks are good, but some are better.

Cheers Andybear

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. Goodaye Yakfisherman. Welcome to the forum mate and it is awesome to see another Tassie yak fisho on the site. The days of me being the only one are long gone. I know the magazine article you are referring to; if it got you keen for a lash then that is great. Enjoy the forum and your new yak fishing experiences. When you are ready to buy a yak and if you can get down South, there is a Viking Espri that Sam owns, a Prowler 15 I own, a Prowler 13 that Vert owns, a Hobie that Blaen owns and another guy with a swing, all in the Hobart area so you should be able to test paddle some of the more popular fishing yaks.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I am undecided what sort of kayak to get. I am slowly reading through all of the old posts trying to get an idea so I can form a shortlist. I will try to see if the Tassie boys will let me have a look at all of their yaks when they have a bit of a get together. I am in Burnie but it isn't a problem to drive South for a few hours as it seems that the Tassie boys are all from the south. I would have liked to get down to Craigbourne when you are all going to be there but my wife has that weekend accounted for. Blaen/Scott, thankyou for the offer to see your kayaks. I hope to take advantage of it soon. I have been looking through the trading post for a second hand one but every one I ring up is a sit in side not an on top which it seems from my research on the site is the way to go. I am starting to learn my models now though through making these phone calls. I can't believe how many Perception Contours are for sale down here they must be a very popular kayak for paddling.

Thanks Yakfisherman

No dramas on checking out the Hobie Yakfishermen.

Too bad you can't make the 24th (yeah we had to move it) but we are planning a overnight trip in November, should be the 11th and 12th to Lake Pedder if you are keen.

Let us know when you are down this way and we will try to hook up.
