Ken a beautiful run I did it many moons ago in a Halvorsen cruiser and found the only hazard was the ski boats further upstream, and in those days a Wisemans Ferry crossing with cables across, but thats probably history now, also a nice pub there.

I did it with a road map and just did the old rule of wide on the bends for the deep water when in doubt as to depth.

We travelled from daylight each day while it was glassy, and have pleasant memories of a magnificent river

In my limited experiencing of Bass fishing - small deep diving lures in the day (or spinner baits) close in to structure as you dare - trolling or flicking. In the late afternoon / early morning surface poppers or chuggerbugs which are like floating insects such as crickets or cicada shaped.

If you can find any live large insect have a go with those on the surface as live bait - hard to find and hook and present though

The cables at Wiseman are still there.

A year or two ago, one of the operators got done for DUI while operating the ferry.

I haven't fished the H'bury for Bass before, but done a bit in other waters. In my research, they are a fairly aggressive feeder, so if you fish the right areas they will be easier to catch than bream, but not as easy as flatty's. Morning and evening are prime times as that's when they actively feed, but can be caught anytime. As wopfish has already said, poppers and fizzers early and late. Spinners, plastics and deep divers in the middle. They will hold up in snags, so during the day hit likely looking structure hard.

Another theory to consider is any big movements in baro pressure will shut them down, but a gradual rise off a low is supposed to be a good time.

Have fun. It's looks like a great stretch of water. Just watch out for ski boats.

Steve.

If you get as far as Wisemans, Webbs Creek used to have a few bass, in fact we caught bream and bass in the same water.
There have been bream and flathead at the bottom end of the Berowra system but water is shallow , ok for yak but not sure about houseboat.

Hi there.

I went this last Easter overnight to somewhere downriver from Wisemans as far as you can drive before you hit National Park. I just slept in the van and kayaked out onto the Hawkesbury under a dark sky for an evenings fishing. It is such a massive water system and after the tide turned the amount of water pushing me upstream meant for a long paddle back. Watch the current in the tidal areas.
Felt a lot more comfortable the next morning in daylight.
Hawkesbury prawns are the local favourite for jewies. I got bream and flathead only.
Such a stunning area and great to see from the kayak, so peaceful... until a speed comes full noise round the bend.

Happy exploring.

At the very least - we need to do some exploring of the rest of the salty areas, no? :D
Ken, how about you let me know when you are mooring close to access and I'll try to come up for an evening popper session. Matt & Victor have got me fired up for a session. Even if the tides are wrong (they are), can always try the shorelines.

Gday Ken,
The Hawksberry is a fantastic place. Up the back of te creeks i haven't fished for bass but soapy jews hey hey, the school will come past and look out you'll be on. Mostly on the run in. Mooney Mooney creek is a fav for this. Haven't done it out of a yak yet. Watch out for the shallows in the big pig and the yak. The Hawksberry mud is really sticky and i've seen people go down to there waist in it.

Cheers Dave.

PS second on watch out for speed boats a few people get killed by them every year and there only getting faster.
