Hi Guys,

A question for you all.

I am about to cut some holes in the deck behind the seat of my Kadaitchi for some flush mount rod holders.
I have been surfing the rigged kayaks posts, and ther location seems to vary from immediately behind the seat to being set back about a foot or so.

Do you guys who have the rod holders up close to the seat find that the rods interfere with your paddle stroke? or would they be better set back a little? If set back a little, are they too hard to reach?

I plan to angle them out and back at 45 degrees but I would hat to cut the holes in the wrong place.

Please help me here guys, I'm tearing my bloody hair out

I stop my paddle stroke with fist about level with my hip, and both my boats have close behind cockpit holders [in Rigged Kayaks].

Never hit them [including with PVC riser] and can also lift my arm enough to remove the rod from the holder without turning in the seat.

Sitting side saddle, I can fish a rod from the front Berkley and the rear holder if required, with both in easy reach

Hi Hairy - another option is to fit these mounts Scotty No. 344 Round Flush Deck Mount which you can then use a varied arrangement of options. The rod holder can then be fitted to a bar in this bracket which you can be moved closer or further aft or even over the gunwhale. One option only but many available using this system.

"Hmmm" wonder if you could make a battery powered holder that fits in this mount which can be moved to any position with the push of the button - just kidding but not totaly silly

Also allows you to have your rods higher up and clear of rough water.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the advice. I bit the bullet this afternoon and cut the holes & did the end pours. Much easier to do now than once the deck is on the boat.

I decided that I needed easy acces to the live well more than the rods and set the holders back about 200mm. should still be pretty easy to reach.

Here is a piccie of what I did.
