hey guys,

A friend of mine has offered me a viking tempo (not sure if its the fishing one), does anyone own one of these?
if so what are they like? i was thinking of getting an esprit or swing but now this has come up i might consider it if they are allright.
what can you guys tell me about them.

are they capable of a surf launch down on the Gold Coast or are they more of a calm water boat.

thanks again fellas. 8)

The tempo can handle swell but is not good for a surf launch. The open well at the front will fill with a breaking wave, stopping it and leaving it very vulnerable to the next wave. Trust me, I know.

It has a heap of carrying capacity that is good if you want to carry a lot, but is paid for in being slower and less manouverable than the average yak. In calm conditions it is a great platform from which to fish and is very forgiving if you have lots of gear and need to move around organising yourself. However it falls behind the others in the paddling experience.

If you have the funds now for an esprit or swing then go for it, particularly if you want to go through the surf.

Hi Fishing man
I have a viking tempo, and it has been a great experience, but for advice, I would have to agree with Peril. I will be looking for something more kindly in the wind next year. The viking tempo will really make you work, if you want to go places. It is stable and forgiving, and very strong, but its no racehorse.
I have not paddled an esprit or a swing, but just on the numbers used by people on this forum, they must be good. (predator also looking good!)

Cheers Andybear

Gday,I fish from a Viking Tempo and it suits my style of fishing , no complaints.I like the carrying capacity and speed is not an issue for me,...when Im paddling Im fishing.I have launched in the surf and have not had any real problems,I dont seem to spend any more time in the water than the other guysThe front well emptys very quickly and when I crash through a breaking wave there is water every where for a couple of seconds so Ive never really thought about it before, thats if Im still right side up.Cheers Gary
