I seem to be hitting West Lakes pretty hard lately - its a bit like groundhog day but figure its still worthwhile posting a couple of pics. Met up with JW and Scupper for an evening session on the mulloway, which didn't show. We struggled to get live bait so were always going to be behind the 8 ball. I'm still amazed at the numbers and size of bream that are in this system - it was hard work getting them to bite but I ended up with two nice fish (approx 32 and 38cm) - theres plenty there but I need to improve my technique to increase catch rates. Caught plenty of smallish bream including one taken on a glow minnow once the sun went down. Had lots of hits but couldn't connect. I had plenty of hits on the sx40 too, but the hooks didn't hold (trebles are still sharp) so not sure what the story is there.

I remember fishing westlakes and doing ok on the bream and surprisingly kg whiting. have you managed to get a jew yet, and what other species have you managed from the yak in that system
Gday Ben. I reckon the only other fish I've caught from the kayak in WL is salmon trout. I have only really just started trying to get a jewie - by all accounts there are a few around. I saw a few whiting last Sunday but wasn't rigged up for them. theres stacks of mullet in there at the moment - all ideal live bait size - but do you think we could hook any? no way. I'm thinking they might be jumping mullet rather than yelloweye.
