so whats the go with the weather on PPB.
Is it normal to have weeks of 15 - 30 knot winds and the rare occasion where it drops to 5 - 10 knots.
Is this a seasonal thing and come march or july etc the bay will have more consistent 5-10 kts and the OCCASIONAL 20-30 kt winds.
This is bloody killing me.as i paddle a bathtub of a Yak the stronger bay conditions are keeping me off the water so bloomin much  maybe i should seriously be looking at a SOT. After watching Poddy head back out into some monster swell  while i had to pack up and head home rather than risk losing my Yak altogether.had i a SOT i would have been right behind ya there Poddy fishing my butt off.

So anyway can somebody shed some light on standard bay conditions through the seasons and whether its always just up/down or are there times where the bay will generally churn out big swell etc and other times it will remain calmer for longer periods than what we are having at the moment.
I ask this because in the last 3 weeks or so we have only had (i think) 3 half days where the conditions were 5-10 knots.
I also understand that most of you guys prefer a nice bit of swell as it makes for better fishing but as i fish from a tub i need the calmer weather.

as it turns out Monday morning is gonna have 5-10 kts so i guess the age old Psy-key is going to have to come into effect. Then again i reckon just a lahate sthart might do the trick

Gday Tony,
I don't really think it's seasonal mate (although spring is usually the windiest season) I've found it's just one of those things with the bay, sometimes you get weeks at a time of very low breeze, sometimes you get weeks at a time of howling gales :?: It is hard to put up with when you're hanging for a fish, fingers crossed for some good days soon.

Hi Tony

The bay does what it wants. The seasons dont behave like they used to 10 years ago but here goes.

Launch early morning because the conditions are often quietest even when big things are forecast for later.

Winter is quietest.

Spring is usualy windier with Southeasterlies and Northwesterlies dominant. These guys actualy bash heads between Carrum and Mornington and often experience quiet conditions here when the crabs are being blown out of the water everywhere else.

More Northeries as it gets hotter in Summer with S/W windy changes. Again the Northerilies blow hardest at the top of the bay but many are very light.

Throw in a few light N/Easterlies during Autum and we have a thoroughly confused ball park.

Because the bay is a big round area, if you dont mind the drive you can get in your car and find an offshore beach on any day.

Yes. Get a SOT because they float in anything.

Cheers

Scott

Hi Smurfman,
The winds this Spring and early Summer have been around 25 knots on the south coast of NSW every day.
It's been so frustrating trying to get out for a fish.
My theory is that there is a link between regular strong winds and this drought. I just recall similar windy conditions 4 years ago when the drought was at it's worst.
Roll on April/May for calmer conditions i reckon.

knot-to-fast it is such a bloomin downer reading the weeks forecast blowin 20 kts or more, mind you it gives the opportunity to try a little Freshwater fishing.i reckon your close to the mark regarding the drought and wind conditions etc.
What are you paddling by the way?

HobieVic, mate i put a note in to Santa for a SOT for xmas but he (she) tells me i gotta be a really REALLY good boy and maybe on my birthday (july) so Woo-Hoo, gives me plenty of time to try out a few different types.

Geez its gonna be a GREAT year '07

I paddle a Cobra Fish n Dive which is rigged with two forward/side mounted Berkley rod holders and lots of other stuff. (Will post a photo one day soon)

The forecast is for up to 18knot winds tomorrow but slight seas early
So should be fine for another trial of side mounted 2hp Honda 4 stroke.
It's been tricky getting engine height and weight distribution correct.
Hope you enjoyed your trip at Bittangabee a while back....
