Clarkos and I made the predawn launch at the national park picnic area and headed upstream. I threw a few poppers (towadi quickly retired as it was sinking - replacement hooks too heavy for the fresh but ok in the salt), and trolled a spinnerbait and a couple of different divers for absolutely nothing.
A few vignettes (that's right, the desperate nature stuff):
* heard a couple of bunnies fall in. They were struggling to find a way out but too terrified for me to help. Should make good bass food;
* a duck adopted me for a while until I paddled out of reach. Even struck the yak with its bill. Too used to being fed by picnickers I guess; and
* had a carp broach right in front of me. I guess it was about 4kg.
I think Steve was as successful as me, but he got off the water a little earlier.
Nice paddle in extremely comfortable conditions, just the occasional zephyr.
