The Mandurah Boat show was on today and I managed to meet up with the MD of Malibu Kayaks, got chatting as you do and spent some time perusing his particular setup on his yak. Nice setup.

Dont know if you guys have Red Dot stores over east [should have] , but they sell a small craft box on wheels, $30, his has the most useful canvas type insert, which fits perfectly over the average milk crate.

Basically a tube with some 30 small pockets sown on to the sides, it will slide over the crate down both inner and outer sides quite snugly, giving you 15 or so pockets both in and outside the crate, deep enough to hold knive's/pliers/lures or whatever. Tidies the whole crate thing up really well. Maybe Mr Martin will read this and post a picture as my digi camera has died[ it got wet  ], but it looks to be a good way to tidy things up back there.

Yeah, those things are cool. You can get a bucket boss for the standard fishing bucket too. Been thinking about incorporating it onto the yak for storage. The skirt fits over a standard white bucket ( 10 litre ) and has more pockets than you can poke a stick at. Not Waterproof but loads of pockets for things. These would be of use if you kept the bucket outside tha milkcrate. My prob is that I dump the bucket in the milkcrate and use the leftover corners for jammining stuff in.

Plumbers shops sell them, tradelink, reece and the like. Around 30 bucks. Used to use a bucket as a tool box with this skirt. Problem was being a sparky things got to heavy in it to carry with one hand, so now use a bag. But i reckon this would be great on a yak if you had just a bucket on the back.

By the by, Duncan is doing a great job pushing malibu stuff over here..... let the chief know if you see him again. I have been hitching lifts everwhere with him and every time he is dropping in somewhere to promote the gear. Good yaks and good products. 8)

Tight lines and big fish!!! :D

David, I was planning to ride up to Mandurah today to have a look at the boat show tomorrow, been meaning to get to it for a few years. But then work chucked a spanner in the works (again) and I was kept busy for most of the day. Bloody work!

I console myself with the thought that I'm better off staying home & earning money instead of going to a boat show where I know I would spend too much money. I wanted to look at fish finders, marine radios, other kayaks (can't look at enough kayaks) and I just might have had a casual look 8) at any stands with fishing tackle.

How are you doing with the yakfishing around Mandurah? I must get up there for a few days before January.

Hey Guys

I bought a Shimano bum bag thing from Big W (i think its also rebadged as 'ET') and have found that it wraps around a milk crate nicely. It has a couple of handy pockets for pliers and a big section for other things. not water proof but handy and accessible. It kinda sags on the crate with weight in the pockets but thats nothing a few cable ties cant fix (is there anything they cant do?).

i think it cost me $20 or so however i didnt buy it for this purpose originally but since it was lying around i thought what the heck!?!

Will post pics soon if it helps?

well here goes - nothing fancy or special but does the trick (note black cable ties to stop the bum bag sagging down)

David - that canvas insert sounds great though. Might check out the local craft stores in Sydney and earn some brownie points with the girlfriend for taking her there

Cheers Fellas

Picked up on DavidF's discussion with Shawn of FishYak; so, had him send me a couple of pix of his arrangement. Myself, if I had that many pockets I would never find anything coz I'd never remember where I put it. Continuous Senior's Moments
