Gday leftieant - not sure if this is the 'correct' way, but I just tied mine and then used a small electrical cable tie to secure the loose end against the main cord. Seems to have worked so far, albeit a tad bulky.

A neat way is to knot it then cover it with heat shrink wrap stuff - gives a pro looking finish.

I just tie a knot - the good ole uni knot gives a neat looking finish and generally holds well.

Ant on something like a paddle holder you can get shockcord ends that compress together with pliers neat and strong about $1.50 each see pics on

For light work I pull the cord around the saddle and do a couple of half hitches with fishing line or twine to lock it tight then cover the lot with shrink for appearance

I'm guessing its something along the lines of an electrical crimp or similar?
Yes Ant a locking collar pushes onto the hook section and drives two wedges into the cord, once locked that's it, cannot be undone
