Red and I were looking for some light fishing on the mighty Molonglo, by native in a large pool. You just don't know.

Very early start [eyes not opened] looking for a spot. I did felt wee bit a skeptical as we haven't had any decent rained for years - what the hell its opportunity to fishing.

We found several spots, on with no water (we thought this must have been a dried creek bed) along a road called Molonglo River Drive ... (rule one don't trust old signs!). Drove further along another road arrrh found a river sign "Molonglo River"! [see red phoenix pics]. Now I was starting to feel we were going to start a new sport, we carry the kayaks while the kayaks did all the fishing.

Now to backup plan, Googong Dam. arriving at Googong Dam at 6:50am, sign reads open at 8am but a half the gate is opened. Our brains start thing ... we WANT to fish now. Red and looked at each other thing who is going first ... looks like me.

Arrived at Googong foreshore, a perfect morning, no wind and the lake is very clear must be perfect condition for a natives or ten.

In we go paddling on our way to Bradleys arm, temperature was a little cooling but the water was perfect. Red armed with is sound finder found a few schools of redfin but not too much luck in hooking any thing decent.

On the way back I decided to put my paddling deep diving 4" Gold lures on (found these last year, you know the type ... Keepers Weepers lures). Paddling for about ten minutes or so, I get this might thump on one of my lures ... please be a yellow. Reeling the fishing in, feels like a yellow, fish sighted; oh no a redfin.

Fish is a fish, the redfin was 31 cm long and weighted about 300 grams and tasted very yummy when I go home followed by a Nana nap.

All in all great morning with adventure and exploring with a fish to boot.

Thanks Red for an excellent morning.

Victor

Thats the place were they caught a carp on a ciggie butt!

Glad Googong was open, was it a total fire ban in the ACT on Friday?... Funny how the gate was like half open at that time of the day, were you guys just gonna sit and wait if it wasnt? ( Thats one painfull wait! ).

Great report, looks like a little Brown snake... hmmm

Not a bad idea Ash, though for the first launch point we were looking at, it would have been a whopper of a paddle:
