It looks like something you might find in one of those XXX Canberra stores but it is actually a kayak fishing cod piece.

Yep! Good old pool noodle and a cutdown tennis ball, moulded and glued into position.

Unlike gimbal belts, you don't strap it around your waist.

Because you're sitting in a yak, your pelvis, beergut and fishing rod naturally hold it in position. You could attach a lanyard.

I cut a bit off the pool noodle using a sharp knife and ran it over heat to smooth out to form a body contour.

Perfect for people who chase big fish.

There's 2 x ways to use it. The latter is most practical.

The first way is to take a tour of Fyshwick in the ACT or better still, Amsterdam. Failing that, there's plenty of instuctional videos available at these red hot tourist destinations.

The second way is to insert your fishing rod into the tennis ball socket and experience the joys of painless fish fighting.

Looks like the stuff of Godless, scumbunculous heathens, bound for eternal damnation and little goblins scratching at the wobbly bits.

We are both amuzed and puzzled though. Perhaps an instruction manual, is in order, since method one is for contortionists, and method 2 is illegal in Queensland.....Probably anyhow

Cheers all Andybear

Top idea Spooled1

I haven't had the need for a Gimble of any type but I like that and if the day comes when I may require it I shall make one up. 8) Maybe I should make one up anyway and practice with it, you know like get the feel of it

Wonder what would happen if you placed it on back to front.

Could I use a squash ball instead   my rod aint that thick :p

Sorry

Russ: LOL :lol::lol::lol::lol: Practice makes perfect!!!!

Andybear: It's a homemade gimbal that is designed for the yak. When a fish hits, you sit the gimbal in your lap and insert the butt end of the rod into the tennis ball socket. The comfortable pool noodle housing allows you to play the fish without the fishing rod digging into your body.

Regular gimbals are designed for stand up work or game fishing chairs. They are also heavy plastic and need to be strapped on. This design is better for the yak because it's light, manageable, practical and free.

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. If you are desperate for the old content of this particular post, it is available below base64 encoded and bzip2 compressed.

Great idea, was thinking of making up a gimbal for the yak and that saves me from experimenting, thanks. Im sure some of you might know this, but for those who dont. If ya want to cut pool noodle like butter, use an electric bread knife it is far better than a knife.

I'm just amazed that 1 year and 8 months later, this simple device still ranks on the front page of DIY...

spooled1, have you got a new improved version?
Sorry WB, due the ridiculously low cost of ownership, I believe this un-patented marvel has achieved all the refinement it needs ;-)
