Ok, I might be able to get a rear pod for the Swing for Xmas. Has anyone used one? I've thought I'd like to take my metho stove etc and have a brew on the bank during the fishing day. Also think more storage is good. Wet weather gear, dry clothes. I know you can fit this stuff inside the hull, but I don't like to pass up a present for the kayak if it's worth having. About $170.00. Any thoughts!!!

LizardWizard who used to frequent the forum had a Feelfree Nomad with a pod on the back, [same principle as the swing one] and it was a real asset.

Terrific dry storage area and he had also set in a flush deck rod holder up on top of the thing.

Anaconda had a swing equipped with the pod and looked OK.

About the only drawback I can see is the additional windage across the rear of the yak, but that would be all to consider

The pod can be seen in the attached pic

Hi JD - definitely think they would be worthwhile. Good for carting stuff on camping trips and also on shorter trips you could throw a couple of bags of ice in to make a kill bin.

If you manage to track them down please let me know, I may be interested in getting one as well.

We have a pod on our swing and have used it with ice to chill the fish and used it when at Tallowa Dam to carry some gear and food. It is a perception pod and we had it in the package when we bought the "queen". If the fishing is crap we can always take a picnic lunch in it and get away from the crowds and have enough room for the fish on the return trip. attached is the bottom view of the pod

Anaconda had one last week. Approx $170.00. Just not sure I want to lose the rear space. I usually leave my cooler bag, plano tackle trays etc in there. If I have the pod I'll need to find another spot for all that stuff. I think it would be awkward to access gear from the pod when on the water.
Something to ponder.

Thats the only problem JD - losing the space in the rear tankwell...thats where I store my net, tackle box etc. I also don't know if it would cover up or obstruct the rear rod holders.

Do you have a photo with the pod in the Queen Sam?

as requested.... a couple of pics of the pod insitu.... and it does not cover the rear rod holder on the queen. the bungee/shock cord is used to ensure the pod stays with the yak as with the straps that cross the pod. hope these help a bit

My 2 cents worth on the pod.I have thought about buying a couple for my swings.i think the beauty of them are the fact are multi-purpose. For example if I was on a o/n camp trip I would use the pod as esky for food and drink. I could also see a use if fishing open seas as aplace for fish storage or storage for safety gear. i probably wouldn't use it if it was a day fish in flat water as it would take up too much room. They look good and they fit nice and snug.Good luck with your decision. :D

we don't use the pod a lot but is handy as a esky if we decide to have a picnic and don't have to go back to the carand get away from the crowds.

Had a good look at a pod today, I don't think it is worth the money and
like everything it's a bit of a trade off. For fishing I can fit more into the empty well.

I have used the pod, but i recon that a dry bag does the same thing, can go the same place, or inside the kayak if you wish. It's lighter, cheaper and useable for other applications. The pod wins out however if used as a fish bucket/esky, its just a little hard to reach.
I usually throw the fish/squid down into the footwell while the fishings hot and then transfer into a plastic bag and drop into the rear hatch (not standard on swings - must be fitted unless the boat came with a rudder) when the fishing slows.
For overnight trips, the pod is great, but i'd still be waterproofing anything the same as if I had put it inside the kayak.

got a pod today. got it for $50 off ebay (love ebay), and couriered to my door for another $53 from Brisbane.

all up, i like it a lot. just gotta put a 1-way flap in the hatch lid on the pod so i can chuck my catch in there with the bag of ice and ill be totally set.

looks the goods for camping too. extremely dry storage, and i hate putting my tackle below deck. dont really use my tankwell now, but will in future.

ill let you all know how it goes after i test it.. 8) 8)

That'd be right, a pod here in Brisbane for $50 and you get it in S.A. :) Might have to try Ebay.
