Alex and I arranged to meet at 6.15am on the way to Baroon Pocket Dam. A great morning, no wind and no other boats.

We got set up and paddled off to one of the spots that Alex had marked on his map.

A slow start as we crossed the deeper water. No action at spot No1 except for a couple of small hits on a TT revhead with a Squidgy plastic.

Off to spot No2. A change to a hard body lure saw a nice bass around 30cm landed. From then on we both enjoyed a couple of hours of catch and release.

All together we caught 20 bass. Most in the 28cm-30cm. One went 42cm.

A Viper lure in purple and black, and a Feral Cat in the same colour were the most productive. Alex also ran a Halco in an orange colour.

We were trolling in about 4-6m of water so these lures would have been close to the bottom.

We both tried spinnerbaits without success.

All in all a very good morning.

John

I'll try to take a pic of the feral cat and post it for you. My neighbour will know where to get them, he's a real lure nut.

Nice one John. Did you happen to see Kilkenny out there? He was going to take his new Hobie for a blast there this morning.

Very nice JD, how come you didn't give me any pointers on the freshwater fishing scene when I saw you at the Pine? This is one time when I do have a lot to learn from you grasshopper. I only caught one fish. But I mainly limited myself to SP's today so that may be why I didn't catch too many. (Still happy with the one I got though!)

Where did you get your hat from? The older I get the more sensible I get about sun protection. I have been looking for one of them but can't find one anywhere.

John,

Sounds like a great day.
Baroon is great spot for geting out of the wind. Which part of the dam were you fishing in (N,S,E,W - If you don't want to sell the specifics  )

Jake-- There was another kayak on the other side of the dam, might have been Kilkenny.

Wayne-- We can't teach you everything at once. I think most of the tackle shops have the hats. Capalaba weekend markets used to have them.

Red-- Don't know what's got the bass firing, it's the first time for a while that I've been in the freshwater. I had to drag out the freahwater tackle box. Water temp around 25 deg. when we started from memory.

Milan-- You should try the Viper, it's made by a bloke in Brisy, I could try and get a contact for you if you wish. I've had my Vipers for a while.

Ash-- The fishing spots were provided by Alex, but we didn't fish N,S or W. Alex did pick up a bass just of the ramp.
