Mate the site gets auto cropped which is where old posts are automatically deleted after a fixed time frame. Most sections get cropped every 6 months, some not at all and the classifieds gets cropped every two months. The reason behind this is to keep the table sizes smaller allowing the pages to load faster.

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. If you are desperate for the old content of this particular post, it is available below base64 encoded and bzip2 compressed.

While I think of it Scott, do you use mysql as a backend? If you have access to change it, PM me /etc/my.cnf and I'll do a quick bit of analysis on the sucker. Might be able to speed things up a whole lot with a few tweaks of the index cache memory allocations.

We do. I'll get it to you later today, if its available to us. The server is shared and we are in a captive environment. Definitely can manage our own tables but I haven't check other config items.
