Headed to Seacliff with Scupper first thing on saturday - absolutely glorious day on the water. Water was like a mirror when we launched and crystal clear, which was great because I could distinguish how the sounder responded to rock, sand and weed. There were a few other kayaks out and about, but I only got to speak to one who scored a couple of snook. There was a cobra FnD about a 100 metres from me - I was going to paddle over and say gday but the pesky squid kept me preoccupied - by the time I went to paddle over he had disappeared - so if it was anyone from here I apologise for not coming to say gday. Anway, I eventually got my bag limit of squid (15) and also had a ball on snook to about 75cm. Scupper hooked and lost another thumper (90cm??) and a SX40 at the same time. The snook I caught were hitting the sp's exceptionally hard, and were very acrobatic, at times launching themselves over the front of the yak - very spectacular. A couple of the fish I hooked i thought would push the 90cm barrier, but turned out to be much smaller. We kept a couple of boats amused as we hooked and released these snook (as many as we wanted really) without them getting a sniff!. There were plenty of yellowfin whiting around as well, but could not entice them with the gulp worms - I'll need to rethink tactics for these. A great morning on the water.

Great report Fisher and a great result. What a beautiful day it looked and what a great feed of squid you ended up with. I have never caught a squid and I am determined to get into them this summer (Kraley you have been put on notice as my tutor next time we go out :D ). I love the way those squid come out of the water...it is like window shopping for innards they are so transparant.

Re the whiting: try casting an sx40 or similar at them. I've picked up quite a few on hbs, with my best being 35cm on a R2S Baby Vibe
Thanks Peril - I tried for quite awhile with small gulp bloodworms, and also tried a shrimp/yabbie pattern sp to no avail - will certainly try again with the sx40 - why not, they catch everything else!

You're making me wish I went out on Saturday. I went out with a workmate in his boat from O'Sullivan's on Friday. Tried Millionaires first, saw a couple squid but they wouldn't hang on. Then tried trolling for snook with no luck, we then went to a mark he had called Janet's but nothing there either. Came in little closer to shore probably just over a Km off shore and scored some gar and tommies. We then tried back over near Millionaires and got some more fat tommies. Was a little disappointed that we got no squid, saw plenty but just wouldn't hold on.
Glad you had a good day, I was too knackered on Sat but now kicking myself.

Hey Fisher,

Sounds like great times. The weather was sure nice to be out in. Even if it were a little hot up in Pirie. Good to hear you got a good feed of squid. Very tasty, as I sit here digesting the ones I had for dinner tonight.

Yakabe.
