Got to Cottage Point at about 5:30 am with a good breeze already going. Launched with no dramas once I realized that leaving the cart on until the yak floated off it was far superior to turning it sideways and dumping everything out on dry land.

Trolled a CD9 and another cheapie greenish deep diver HB to the cargo wharf for nothing. Jigged for squid there and another spot further around but didn’t get any interest, which I thought was unusual. Crossed just north of Lovett Bay for one last try at squid – Still nothing. Got the first tailor on the way back to SI. Nice one about 35 cm. Got another one right away and when I trolled back something bigger took my cheap greenie. (8 lb Fluorocarbon trace which I am finding to be brittle) :x .

Drifted the East side of SI 6 or 7 times for lots of little bream and a nice flounder. Found a squid playing with my prawn so I whipped in a jig I keep on a hand line for occasions like that. Now I had downrigger bait. Tried downrigging for about half an hour to no avail. So I started back. The wind died so I thought would ring the wife. As soon as I got the phone out – double hook on the CD9 & another cheapie red and white HB. Quick goodbye and only managed to bring in one of the 2. Five minutes later got another one on the R&W HB. Wind was really picking up so I had a bit of a work out of a pedal back the last half K. Just as I was reeling in near the beach a bream took the R&W, he was only about twice its size.

Best day off I’ve had in years, the only downside is that the Hobie is taking on water. Had about 2 litres in it when I pulled out. Need to figure this out.

Good report mate. Sorry to hear about the water intake in your Hobie but it appears this is a common problem. I would think given the amount of instances of this occurrence lately, the distributors will know where it is coming from and fix it quickly for you so I would be returning it to them for review.

Good one Eric!

Wow, looking at that area on google earth, it's certainly boat-anchorage heaven out there - did you have to weave through on your way back in?

Pittwater is indeed full of moored boats, & I did weave in and out of them a bit when I was trolling as I wanted to get the HB close to some of the them. There are areas around the island that hold Kings and I know some people like throwing poppers around the boats looking for them, particularily early in the morning when they supposedly feed closer to the surface.

Up until about 9 am I could hear some surface action (saw it once too). Don't know if it was kings, or tailor. When I saw the splashes though, I was downrigging and not set up to quickly throw a lure there.
