Headed out at 5 AM this morning hoping to catch another trevor like last week. Spent until 9 am catching and releasing 2 just undersized flatties, 2 bream and a toadfish.

Decided that the 3" minnow wasn't big enough so I switched to a 5" gulp jerk shad, and a squidgy resin head jig. About third cast I was on, called it for a big flattie to start with as it didn't have the blistering run but then I saw silver and knew it was a nice 43 cm trevor.Took me a few goes but soon enough it was in my brand new landing net. (Finally got a net) Took a little while though they are a tough fighting fish and I was only using 4lb line. Didn't get another fish for about two hours when I landed a 42 cm flattie. Decided to end on that note so headed back to ramp.

Pictures show the two fish and the SP that I got them on. The old guy I gave the fish too last week was there so I got hime to take the first photo. He was going out for tea tonight so he didn't want any today.

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. Yakatak it is called sardine colour.

While loading up I was talking to a guy giving his dogs a swim and he says that the creek is full of trevally. He lives right on the creek and has a pontoon that he catches them off regularly.

Two trips two of the same fish, that convinces me that they are common enough. I know I'll be going back for more. Great sport on light tackle.

On another note, I lost so many fish today from not hooking up properly. They would strike, hold on for five seconds and then drop off. Would have happened about 15 times. Once I almost got a 5" SP in my face  Must remember to take sunnies when heading out this early.

Anyone had this happen before, not a common occurence for me. Checked jighead everytime I dropped one, but seemed OK.

Red, that's why I put on this big bugger. As I was putting it on I was thinking how ugly does this look! No fish is going to eat that. 2 minutes later I was hooked up! The trevally had the lure right down his gob and the resin jighead was busted up big time, in the end I just cut the line and rerigged, with the same ugly SP and jighead of course

Hi Wayne
Good to see you've followed the lessons I gave you. Your catch rate seems to have increased.
Sounds like a good day. I'm off to Fraser Is. for a week. (no kayak) We'll have to catch up for a fish in a couple of weeks.
Keep practising. haha

Yes Grasshopper JD you have taught me well. Catch up we will. Enjoy Fraser.

Peril, they are really good fun on the light line. They jsut turn sideways on and you can't gain any line on the buggers. The two that I have caught both took about 5 circles of the yak and the first made some blistering runs. Can't wait for next Friday. Maybe sneak out during the week at night, (If the wife lets me)
