Rudder - How Important?

Novice question from a novice, but how important is a rudder?

I want to fish from a SOT in Moreton Bay. I am 100kgs, and looking at a 2nd hand Perception swing, and 2nd hand malibu pro explorer - both approx $1000 - I believe the malibu can't get a rudder attached...
(a) is this right? and
(b) is this likely to become a problem/nuisance for me?

thanks for any advice/opinions.

Of the 20 odd AKFF members I've fished with in company, only 3 or 4 had a rudder.

It's undeniable they can be an asset but I haven't missed one to date, maybe 4.3m and above can see a possible need but not a must on smaller yaks
