I spotted an ad in the yokel paper today that advertised said kayak for sale for $330. I called the lady and asked a few questions, she assured me it was near new, only used a few times and looked like new. So I drove up past Somerset dam, about 25mins drive, to have a look at it, $350 in my pocket, thinking 'whoohoo, I'm gonna get me a bargain!'
Anyways, we walked around behind the shed and I sees this old looking kayak on the ground and she says, 'here we go, one kayak.'
I reckon my face must have dropped about 10" and I was quite gobsmacked. The entire top of this kayak was scuffed and several large chips in the paint were immediately apparent. I wasn't happy, but kept my cool, inspected the thing a bit closer, chunks out of both ends, deep score marks in the full length of the hull, all up, a pretty average looking little boat. I later made the observation that it looked like it had been tied to a tractor and dragged around the paddock a few hundred times.
A few deep breaths and I made an offer of $100 and gave the lady my card so she could call me if the boss was interested in lowering the price.
Was I expecting too much, is this kayak worth anything over $100?

I reckon ya did the right thing with the $100 offer. Amazing what people think is "like new". Certainly wouldn't go the original price when the seller was obviously so far out with the description.

I wus gunna say ya could have asked for the $100 to cover delivery, but they would probably use the tractor they dragged it around the farm with.

Karl, if it was a tk1, and was in that condition , it would certainly not perform well, we look after our tk1s at the club like babies, so mate i think i would save my $100 and buy somthing that gives you some value :) :)

Karl Iknow how you feel. I once went to look at a HR premier that the lady on the phone assured me was a daily driver, original condition etc etc. After arriving & walking around this rust bucket on blocks to get to the front door... Must have this one for spare parts I thought , only to be told that this thing on the front lawn was in fact the car that had only been driven to church on sundays. I just spun on my heals, shaking my head & left without saying a word. What are these people thinking :!: I share your pain & frustration. Mal
