It was a great turnout this morning, 7 intrepid mangoes ventured to Rickett's Point this morning dreaming of big red, or even little red. Team Hobie, made up of Josh (5/11) and Steve, were first on the water, followed 30 minutes later by Team Squid at 6am, we were followed about an hour later by SMURFSMUGGLA (Tony) and his ladyfriend Pam-Lico, and Team Hoit (Grant and his father Frank) joined us on the water at about 8. As you can see from the photos below, the conditions were glorious, but maybe a little too calm.

The fish weren't that willing to eat plastic this morning, but this didn't stop Squidette from nailing an impressive quinella of a 38cm snapper and....wait for it.....a 39cm King George whiting on a soft plastic!! I'd heard of it, but never seen a KG taken on SP, I was proud as punch, and Squidette was over the moon to land her first whiting. Berkley GULP 3" Fry in Pumkinseed accounted for these two great fish. Not satisfied with this catch, Squidette went on to foul hook the smallest leatherjacket you can imagine (see pic below).

I managed a few tiny pinkies, Tony caught a few of the same on pilchards until he ran out (including his first snapper! Congrats mate :p ), and Josh caught a ripper snook, hopefully he has a photo of the beast. I think Steve also caught a few bits and pieces while trolling. We also ran into Gary on the water. I'm not sure how team Hoit went, they were enjoying the sunny and gorgeous conditions when we left at around 10:30.

Although it was a quiet trip fish wise, the company was first rate, cheers for a fun morning mangoes :D :D :D

Yeah, it was a great day on the water today, but again a bit too calm and a little too quiet. It was good to see so many of us out there. I was tempted to stay out all day, and the only reason I didn't was that I thought I might fall asleep at the wheel on the way home (4th AM trip out this week). I managed 2 small pinkies, 4 flatties and this guy below which is around 70cm. All but the snook released.

Tis a good fish, but sadly, the best I've managed all week. I think I'm going to change my approach a bit now and put in some more PM trips instead, as well as a few offshore ventures. The frequent fresh starts are getting a bit much and I'm not getting a lot of results. I'm hoping the PM hours might help change my fortunes.

It was a very enjoyable morning out on the water even if team Hoit went fishless. As per my post in the Main topic Hoit senior managed to get spooled by what I suspect was a good snapper. I was chatting to 5/11 at the time and didn't know the old man had hooked up until I heard the swearing after he was spooled.

Well down Squidette on the pinkie and whiting. You just on keep putting the results on the board.

I was on the water this morning also, 5 am launch from Chelsea. Despite the calm conditions only got out as far as the inner reef (3 k) as I wasn't feeling 100%. Sounded a good school of fish which after some coaxing yielded two pinkies largest at 36 cm and dropped one that had a bit more weight.

May launch out of Ricketts next time as I've realised that it's a little closer from there to the outer reef off Mordialoc. That way I can hook up with you guys upon the return.

Congrats Squidette on an outstanding effort! Nice snoooooook too 5th (ya gotta say it like that when they're long beasts), how'd she cook up? Good to see Mr Hoit Senior onwater..a bit of bad luck with the miss (but ya can remind him of it though Grant..I would). Kevin, the radio fishing shows were banging on about bigger fish moving into deeper water this week and away from the shallows..see what happens there. Smurfo, top effort with you and the Italian chick getting a snaps :D
