Angles asked about my FF install as I swap it between the 2 yaks. The pictures are pretty self explanatory. The hardware for the install cost less than $10 at Whitworths.

The FF is held in place with a canopy loop and toggle, no dramas to date with the security of the setup and allows the unit to be fitted and removed in seconds.

The hull penetration is a dinghy drain plug, the FF connectors just fit through the plug one at a time so it would be worthwhile making sure that the connectors do fit through before committing to this method. The bore of the drain is plugged with a rubber bung that is drilled with 2 holes for the cables to pass though and cut from one side. The drain assembly comes with a screw in plug that can be fitted if the FF is not installed.

The transducer is housed in a well filled with water. Well was made from a plastic pipe off cut roughly contoured to the hull shape before being bonded to the hull with a silicone sealer / adhesive.

Battery is 12v 7 Ah sealed lead acid and it doesnt mind being stood on end in a drybag in the forward hatch of the Sport. It is horizontal in the Classic but orientation does not seem to matter. FF Power supply is via cigarette lighter type plug with inline fuse.

Hey mate,

Nice setup.

Something I've wondered a lot - some guys tend to stick transducer to the bottom inside of their hull and its run 'dry', some use wells etc like you have - any advantage to running it wet over dry???

Thanks from me too Lloyd. That looks great to me. I might be copying it heavily as well. :D

Very cool...''

Here's an add on:

Wrap a band of velcro around the PVC transducer pipe. Fill the inside pipe with vaseline, dunk in the transducer and place another band of velcro straight over the top to hold the transducer in place.

This is handy for people who fish the bumpy stuff.
