Looking at purchasing a second yak ( Yes without a Mirage drive! ) thats over 4m+ and capable of venturing offshore ( Light style work ) and noticed that Q Kayaks do a SOT called the 'Swift'.

Quite a nice looking yak ( Would upgrade for fishing ), check the specs :

Anyone had any experience with Q Kayaks or the Swift?
Looking for any knowledge on the above and would be keen to hear of other Kayaks you would recommend around $1k - $2k.

PS - I have read the other Threads on SOT's and they are very informative so thanks to the thread starters, just wanted to start my own so i can get some personal direct support from kayak users ( In other words, because ive narrowed down my selection... that and i like to talk shit! )

They're a bit of a dog paffoh... very unstable and not much payload capacity.
IMHO you'd be better off looking at an OK Scupper Pro or Prowler Elite.

As always, be sure to try before you buy.

Nice looking yak. Dogfish, is it more unstable than other yaks of this width? And is it unstable when at rest or moving?

Cheers mate, am trying it and a few others this weekend at a demo day before i go out on my own yak, dont know if they have the models and brands you mentioned but will do some more research throughout the comming weeks...

Whats your opinion on Q Kayaks?

This wont strictly be a fishing yak, id paddle around alot too just dont think im cut out for the SIK style.

Will let you guys know how i go after the testing on Sunday, if all else fails i guess ill have to stray futher and consider another Hobie ( Like the Adventure / Revolution ).

The stability is more of an issue when at rest. I think they got it wrong somewhere in marrying their SOT deck to what is essentially a SIK hull. The COG is too high and requires constant hands-on-paddle to balance.

By comparison, in my SOT Kaskazi Pelican you end up sitting below the waterline only about 25mm off the hull bottom as you would in a SIK, and as a result stability is not an issue at all.

Heya Paffo,

I have a Q kayaks, Dusky Bay. - a tandem expeditione sea kayak and it is a superb boat on every way.

I can't comment on the one pictured other than it looks to be based on the tue hull. There, I am told are a very **** SIK hull.
