First ever session fishing from a Kayak. My mate Craig and I went out from Rickets Point at 6am this morning to give the new Hobie Adventures a try out. Craig was busted off by what seemed like a large Snapper, I caught one 60cm snook. Very impressed with the yaks - they really move and make a very comfy fishing machine. Nothing to write home about fish wise but a had a ball nevertheless. :D

Congrats on the new yaks mate - I'll be joining the adventure ranks soon, upgrading from a Hobie sport. You'll be seeing me at Rickets from time to time to. Snapper bust offs and spoolings and bigass snook are all the rage there at the moment it seems. :)

Well done on your first trip.. hopefully this time next week I'll be posting about my first paddle as well. I'm getting my dirty mits on a Hobie Revolution, and hoping affect my own little revolution in it...

I've spent all weekend getting my swoffing gear ready... stay tuned folks...

I happen to work in Cheltenham, so hopefully I'll get to bring the yak down that way to meet the Rickett's Point yak flotilla!

Tight lines

Hi Stalker, hope to see you out on the water soon. I reckon the Hobies will outnumber us paddlers soon.

There must be at least a few nice Snapper in close at Ricketts at the moment. It's a challenge to land them on light gear but that's why I keep going back there. :)

Regards

Welcome Stalker to AKFF and the world of yak fishing. Look forward to seeing you out there sometime. One of us is going to have to land a decent snapper soon with a number of bust offs and fish being dropped.

I will also have to have a look at these Hobies as I'm getting a little weary of paddling long distances and thinking that maybe peddle power may get me out there a bit quicker?

Hiya Stalker, nice result on the snook well done. As far as the Adventures whipping along..wow they move. Sat night PhillipL, the Squids and myself had an arvo evening session. As it got dark Phillip had stayed a bit wider than us other three as we gabbled and cleaned fish on the shore....so we kind of lost track of where he was. We still had to paddle back to the cars though, and couldn't work out where he was and were hoping he had lights due to a boat working near by. Then we realised that the boat that was whipping along was actually Phillip....

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. Thanks all. Can't wait to get back out there. With 40 knots and 3 metres predicted for PPB tomorrow looks like i might wait another day or so. Could be great to get out at Ricketts as soon as things calm down (thursday pm) - lots of nice stirred up stuff in close for those big Reds to be munching on! :D
