Philip, Rod, Squidder, Squidette & I headed out from the Beaumaris Yacht Club at around 6am. Things looked promising with a surprising amount of chop coming from a 10-12knot SW. One of the forum lurkers, Gary also joined us out on the water later on.
On the paddle out I hooked up on a pinkie on the Poddy inspired Thunderstick. I pulled out my SP's but only got a few small touches so I decided to go for paddle and hooked up two more pinkies on the Thunderstick. I switched back to the SP's again for only a few small touches. Hmmm, I could see a pattern developing here.
Rod (I don't like trolling) decided to give his Berkley Frenzy a swim and promptly got into the pinkies. It came to an end when a pike liked the lure more than Rod. We both ended up with 6 pinkies on the troll. At this rate we will be giving Poddy a run for his money soon.
Team Squid were persisting with the SP's and getting some small pinkies for their trouble. Squidette also bagged a Red Mullet. In a display of confidence I pulled out the Ultrabite and predicted I would a catch pinkie of the next drift. Bugger me if I didn't hookup 2 minutes later.
This sent Team Squid into a squabble as to who would get to use their Ultrabite first.
I didn't see much of Philip on the water as he seems to enjoy peddling his Hobie around everywhere. He probably needs to throw a sea anchor out when he is trolling to slow him down and give the fish a chance to catch up. He did let me go for a peddle as we were packing up. I kept saying to myself I don't need another kayak, I don't need another kayak. But I suspect that it is only a matter of time before a hobie is added to my fleet.
It was a very enjoyable day out on the water with the other Mangoes. With summer coming up hopefully it will encourage a few of the forum lurkers to join us out there as well.
