Poddy and I hit Portarlington at dawn's crack this morning, hoping to repeat his snapper success of a few weeks ago. Poddy trolled away into the distance, while I worked plastics in closer, alternating a squid jig and garfish rig on the second rod. The water dropped away to 10m+ quite quickly not far from shore. It was very quiet, with only the occasional flathead breaking the tranquility of a gorgeous morning on the water. One small flathead which I released took up residence in my sea anchor for over an hour (see pic below). 11 o'clock came and we decided to call it quits, enjoying a paddlers breakfast of pies, sausage rolls and custard tarts at the bakery :D then grabbing a few kilos of mussels each from the lady at the co-op. Thanks for an enjoyable morning on new water Rob (new for me anyway)

Happy days! I've finally moved into the digital age, attached are a few pics from this morning, taken with my new Pentax OptioM20 :p

Yep in the channel Peter.

Sounds like a bit of a Geoff Wilson special you'd be into. I've never caught a mulloway...but had a couple of lure cracks at em. A change of pace is the go though...Lake Tyers for the Poddy's this weekend then another plan of some sought. Warm nights on the water, hmmm that's tempting Peter. Any tips on running livies? :D :D

In the past ive hooked just before the dorsal fin?

There is plenty of mullet under the bolte bridge in the little back water there.

That would be the go mate ,have a fish and get a coffee at the cafe's in the area, all nice and warm.

Did you check your wallet and watch were still intact after releasing that Flattie Jason. I mean take a look at picture 3. The eyes on that flathead are waaaay too close together  . Looks very shifty to me and certainly not trustworthy.
