It is a non kayak question ... but at least we get to get the best out of 2 worlds if we get one.

The situation is we are busy planning for a trip up North and then across towards Darwin and down the Gibb river road where the kayak will have pride of place on the vehicle but am also thinking of getting a Portabote as there would be enough room for both. On a trip up to the Cape last year we took an 8 ft tinnie - a bass boat really, but I felt decidedly unhappy in such a small boat when we fished the croc waters up there - you can imagine how I felt in the Kayak in similar waters especially when you see a croc quietly sub merging not 40 meters from you........ that resulted in switching to dual power as was in the Ultimate propel at the time but had the paddles going like a windmill as well. I don't have titanium goolies like Murd or Frankie ..... and even if I did I want to keep them.

So my question is.... has anyone heard good or bad stories about the Portabote for the type of use that we would be experiencing. And also does anyone perhaps know of one for Sale?

RB a mate had an old canoe style PortaBote one time about 10' long from memory and carried 2 people easily.

We all laughed until we saw it on the water, where it was a fantastic unit, but really doubt you would feel any more secure than your experiences in the tinnie or the Ultimate.

assemble one of these, add his motor and other gear then launch in about 10 minutes.

The PortaBote bloke I mentioned in my earlier reply put a 2hp Johnson on his as well, and it really got up some speed.
