It all started when the alarm went off at 4 AM for me. After being woken up at midnight and 2 AM by my 17 month old I had one of those moments of insanity when I thought, geez it would be nice to just stay in bed, but I shrugged it off and was glad I did. Left home at 4:30 to make it to the ramp by 5:30. JD and I were on the water by about 6 with Yaker still unloading. JD put me straight onto some nice bream on the rocks to the right of the ramp. Talk about lucky, after catching my first bream on soft plastics in years on Tuesday just gone I quickly bagged two healthy specimens in the first 30 mins, both released.
We decided to go for a troll up the river, nothing touched my sx-40 but JD got a whiting on a halco. I paddled across the creek to where I thought a flathead or two would be on this bank. I quickly nailed one little tacker about 20 cms. Then I got another one about the same size. Then I latched onto something with a bit more weight and ended up being a 42cm specimen. By this time JD was back up near the boat ramp and Yaker was almost at deep water bend. So I started the long arduous (sp?) task of paddling back against the making tide, sx-40 in tow. Managed to get a small tailor on it. But by the time I had unhooked him I had drifted backwards another 100 mtrs that I would have to paddle so I didn't bother putting it back out again. Paddled back the mouth of a small creek across from the boat ramp and met up with JD again. The tide was flowing strongly so I tied onto a tree and JD anchored up using his paddle.
This was where we met Milan in his sexy new predator (minus his fishing rod
), I like the look of those, hmm.. I'm thinking upgrade already after only 2 months!!! That was about it for the day, back at the ramp at 9:45.
All in all a good days fishing for me and a new fishing spot explored. Very happy.
