Hi all,

I have just joined and first up I want to say what a great site this is.. it's incredible what you can learn before you even get to have your first paddle !!
Now the good new is I have just purchased a Prowler 13... bad news is I can only store it outside. What I am after is a bit of advice as to the best way to build a frame of some type so as I can store it on a wood pailing fence ?!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
cheers Devo

Welcome Devo.

Whip it! Whip it good!

Sun is probably you're biggest enemy here, so you want to ensure that the yak is shaded. You could try some wide straps and suspend it off the fence. A bit of padding where the straps contact the yak should prevent deformation. Back to the first point - the hotter it gets the more likely you are to get deformation so keep it shaded and cool.

Thanks mate.. Im actually in the process of making up a kayak cover out of a heavy duty tarp so that should sort the weather conditions out..
just a matter of how to hang the new baby after that !

Every thing Dave told you is correct, but having said that mine are outdoors for many months, and on their side on a couple of blocks which are padded and have had no problems, I do leave the bungs open though to let any build up of pressure escape.

I feel you may be better served to lay shade cloth on the yak to let it breathe rather than cover with a tarp, unless your shade is well above the boat.

I have all the materials to make an overhead storage area in my carport but haven't done so as yet

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. If you are desperate for the old content of this particular post, it is available below base64 encoded and bzip2 compressed.

Greetings Devo,

Like Dodge my Yak is stored and secured outside. I am fortunate enough to have some very large Apple trees in my yard, about 6 of them. I have my Yak postioned against my fence on 2 pieces of 4 x 4 treated pine.

She gets a bit of shade cloth thrown over her as a blanket and in spring/summer she will have the blankie and the added shade of the Apple trees in full leaf.

Oh yeah and Dodge is right about leaving the bungs open, I forgot to one day and when I opened a hatch there was a huge of a gasp of air escaping from her. And that was only after a couple of sunny days at about 17 to 18 degrees.

Hey peril , showing your age there.

now remember.
When a problem comes along You must whip it, Before the cream sits out too long You must whip it, When something's going wrong You must whip it.

now whip it, into shape, shape it up, get straight, go forward, move ahead,
try to detect it, it's not too late, to whip it, whip it good ..........

Gday Devo , welcome the the nuthouse.

Hear is my outdoors yak storage solution. You will notice the extreme care and attention to detail I have used with this storage solution. I'm available for consulting on this subject if the need arises
