Because I've got a few years behind me (to say the least) I am privy to what some of the terms/phrases/words used to day really meant when they first bacame used.

"Calls a spade a spade"... still means the same... tells it how it is... but "spade" meant a black person, not a similar tool to a shovel.

When, on the odd occasion I hear someone say "calls a spade a shovel," I am absolutely certain that that person doesn't know what spade meant in the original term.

I get a real giggle when I hear a woman talk about a "can of worms!" The meaning of that old saying is a trifle crude, and to hear that from females is a real circus!

Some of you older AKFF'ers surely would know about such sayings?
