It has been a while since the "queen" has been wet and yesterday the chance to take a newbie out was on offer and we headed up to the river to chase any and everything. The new doctor on the island has not done a lot of fishing or kayaking and yesterday he ticked both off his list of things to do. His first introduction to island fishing and Australian fishing was sunday morning and flicking metals and SP's around and he caught a pike and threw it back. Yesterday he managed a small flathead and a good size salmon that was close to 50cm in the kayak. We fished from the "queen" and also from sandbanks on foot during the morning. The day although relatively slow on the fishing side was enjoyable and relaxing. Brin (the doctor) never understood the point of fishing until he saw how he could sit and do very little and enjoy the peace. the highlight or most memorable part of the morning was when we neglected to drag the queen far enough out of the water and when i landed a good size salmon and he took a couple of photo's and when the salmon was released we saw the queen about 3 metres off the bank and heading down the river and Brin dived in and dragged the kayak back and then dived back in the water to enjoy himself. How we forget the simple pleasures of laughing at ourselves sometimes. We landed 1 flathead and 7 salmon for the morning and all were released to grow bigger.

Sounds like you may have a convert to kayaks with the medico Shane.

Always enjoyable to share an outing with a first timer

the days with out wind here are the exception water_baby but depending what way it blows determines at times the side of the island to fish from. I think winds are around the 15-20 knots most of the time and regularly go over 40 knots, but i suppose when you live on a small island you have to expect this
