Been thinking about an anchor for some time. Takes a while for thoughts to travel from one part of my brain to another and then even more time to fire some nerves and actually create some action. So . . . .

My first anchor was a brick with holes in it. The holes came with the brick, I did not add them later. Didn't like it too much. Not even good for cutting bait up on.

Saw Scott's anchor, pipe + 6 wire thingos sticking out. Hmm . . . Cut old 1/2 gal pipe which many years back carried hot water under the house. No water came out when I cut it, so hot water must go some other way now. Got about 40 cm length.

Had bit of wire left over from when I travelled and needed a long hook for getting wild mangoes. Some type of heavy fencing wire. Cut it and bent it. Ahh geee! Only enough to do four not six grappling bits.

My anchor is mostly for sand so needed more grip. Cut a 2 litre juice bottle in half. Put it on the anchor so that the tines would hold it on but it would dig into the sand.

Tested it in Fishing Ck when it was blowing a gale or close to it. The line is 2 or 3 mm blind cord, about 30 m as per the packet which I bought from Big W. Goes on cut piece of plywood. At Fishing Ck, dropped anchor, let out 20 of line before trying to control yak. Held fast. When I pulled it up, the container had sand in it so it was digging in all right.

Only problem was if I drop it straight in, the plastic bit can ride up the line. I drop it in upside down. It is very light, was holding extremely well, but I reckon if I have to reef it up it will bust off. If I am going to anchor on rock, I'll take off the plastic bit.

Ingenious Troppo - I have never seen an anchor with a scoop system (sorry, don't know how else to describe it) on it. what a great idea - how did you think of it?

Duncan: Your post said look at your new anchor. I see a thick rope which is the anchor rope (I use 2 mm cord but each to his own) and I see a big orange thing. I assume that is the anchor. :D

Thanks guys. Nice comments, great humour.

I had not thought about reversing the bottle. Thermodynamics and vector fluid movement was never my strong point  .

I am just glad I remembered to tie the rope on before throwing it out. Some of you may recall a post I made long long ago about a boot I filled with cement as a non-scratch anchor for my Dad. When he tested it he didn't tie the rope to his boat, so lost it. That's what he said anyway. Maybe he just chucked it in a bin on the way to the fishing spot.
