I searched around Sydney for split-tali rivets and found some trade outlets but they never had any in stock, or the bulk price was just too much. In the end went back to my yak vendor. Any yak vendor who does customisations should sell either or both wellnuts and split-tail rivets

Regular Ramset well nuts do the job brilliantly (They aren't called wellnuts but are in the ramset section at the local hardware store). All you need to do is replace the brass bolt with a stainless steel one.

I used the original brass bolt for 6 months and it had fully corroded and become rusty. The nut was still perfect and had no corrosion.
