Met Poddy at 4:45am this morning to give him the Mornington tour. Conditions a lot flatter now and very little wind. Got a mixed bag myself of pinkies, red mullet and couta. Good fishing but nothing to get excited about. Some took plastics and others on the Yozuri HB deep divers. I cant belive how slowly Poddy trolls his HBs, he barely moves but it works. I slowed down myself and the strike rate seemed to improve. Ya learn something new everyday.

Left Poddy out there at 7:00am to come home and sort out breakfast for the team. Last I looked he was pulling more fish from those HBs.

Cheers

Scott

Thanks for showing me about Scott...much appreciated and good to put another face to an akff name :D As for the fish, the snook went 81cm of slime....which was the exact length I wanted but I thought I'd ordered a snapper. Where's the bloody manager? Not too worry I'll try Scotts sugesstion of fishcakes. Also ended up with a few pinkies to 38 cm (one donated by HobieVic), small coutta by the truckload, and...I say and...3 small salmon. Who'd have thought ***** would show (ok they were only bay trout size at approx 25cm but technically they break a curse). I also missed a squid which would have given me a 5 species bag for the first time in ages..would have/if only/could have

Oh yeah, even I can't believe how slow Poddy trolls

Good outing guys. What do snook that size fight like?

Poddy, just how slow do you troll? When I'm trolling small hbs in shallow water I do about 2kph. Similar? Just fast enough to get the rod tip vibrating? I get the feeling that I've been trolling my deep divers too fast (4-5kph)

Well done lads, I'm highly looking forward to your resuts tomorrow morning.

Peril snook don't fight all that well in my opinion the biggest i have caught was around the 70 cm mark. The salmon i caught that day around the 1 kilo mark fought twice as hard for there weight.

Thats a mother of a pike Poddy well done mate. :)

Hiya Peril,
Re the speed the rod tip vibration is my guide aswell..just as long as they're pulsing I figure I'm fine. Most of the guys we get a look at are reef dwellers and not speed merchants. I'm not sure of kph but I've got a GPS so will get a read next time out. If I had a spoon out the back I'd get along at a better clip, but mostly I'm overtaken by granny's reading Joan Collins and floating about on lilo's. The snook kind of fight like a kingfish...if the kingfish has been donged on the head and filleted. Still gotta let em take a little bit of line now and then to avoid pulling hooks though. I was a bit dark on myself for keeping that one, even though they're ugly ducklings when I ran a knife through it was female full of roe...not good karma and I have some sucking up to do with the fish gods
