Location : Eden - October Long Weekend 2006
Fishing : Shore & Stinkboat
After a 3 hr trip ( Bloody traffic! ) we arrived at Merimbula, NSW early'ish Saturday morning... Visiting the 'Old Man' for some testing and a spot of fishing off the coast of Eden on Sunday.
Testing mentioned above was to declare ( Basically prove to the 'Old Man' ) that new techniques were just as good as old, the basis of this was if fluro orange or lumo beads would actually attract more bites than a standard running sinker rig ( Based on a trip to the bottom lake @ Merimbula ).
Being an active tackle buff, 3 rods were used with 2 rods rigged with orange beads bellow the sinker yet above the sinker with a leader of 40cm with a running orange bead with a mustad big red hook ( In other words, loads of flashy red things ) whilst my dad used a standard running sinker fishing straight through with no leader.
We attracted 100's of toadies which proceeded to attack the orange beads in shallow water, trying to eat them whilst others would fight over the bait without actually becoming hooked unless jagged, as the water is tidal with good flow the water was crystal clear so all action could be seen by the naked eye, needless to say Dad was amazed at the result... his old school ways were tried and tested but i was more succesfull ( Doubt he will go and buy some though, you never know! ).
Sunday Morning we headed out to south of Mowarry point off Eden with the boat ramp hectic as usual during the long weekends and holiday seasons, lots of marine life around with Eden famous for its whale watching and dolphin activities... rocked up at the local Flathead spot looking for some monsters but only managed to get 21 legal flatheads ( 5 anglers on board ) before a coastal patrol wind warning pointed out conditions were about to get worse.
Hope you enjoy the pics, doubt ill ever take a kayak out there as many currents colide making waters very confused, a few brave yakers were out but they were not fishing... kind of in a hurry to avoid the wind that made cruising back to the ramp on the stinkboat difficult at anything over 20kph... was a bloody good weekend though, pity i have to return home to Canberra in the morning ( Back to work <sigh> )
