·Headed out from the Margate ramp around 7pm conditions were beautiful slight swell, clear moonlit night but quite dark even with the full moon I was planning to fish the close reefs up to Scotts Point. Stopped at a little clump of rock I have pulled a few fish from previously anchored up and sent out a pilly (15lb line pea size sinker down onto the hooks) within minutes the first squire came aboard measuring around the 40cm mark this was followed by five more all around 38-42cm, two fish were released and a change of plan was called for as five is the max and I wanted to leave room in case a bigger fish came in. I changed positions to another little clump and immediately hooked up to a small chopper (25-30cm) I caught another chopper before upping anchor and going for a little drift over some some rubble which returned a nice cod (greasy, barbwire, honeycomb or whatever its called all the same fish I think) around 40cm and the last squire around 40cm. I was at a bit of a loss what to do as I had plenty of fish and I'd been out a little over an hour and I had planned to be out till around 9.30pm so I pulled up stumps and headed home.
This was my most successful night outing by far, all fish were caught in less than 12ft of water. The sounder showed lots of arches so I'd guess there were some more around. Its hard to believe the fishing can be so good around there but I have had a couple of good sessions now.
