Hi all, Just got off of the Frasercoast sportfishing website and found some very interesting reading in there regarding the closure of the dam.
As the notice in the paper says that as of 18th dec the main gates will be locked from 4pm until 6am the following day meaning that for anyone wanting to fish in between these times it is basically bad luck.
This certainly does not sound promising for any dusk/dawn surface sessions. I have attached a copy of the notice for all to see.

its sound workplace, health and safety regs being put in place.that plus the fact they wont want to see construction equipment go walkabout.shame about the timing though ,rumour is the wall will be getting raised shortly as well.

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. If you are desperate for the old content of this particular post, it is available below base64 encoded and bzip2 compressed.

That just means those of us that use the Dam for a full days fishing might have to stay the night.
I was out there the other day and the wall looks close to being completed.
I might just write a letter to the water board and see wha there explanation is behind this. As for equipment going missing the only things out there are large machinery that you need a truck and trailer to move and if someone wants that a locked gate wont stop them.
Story of my life everytime i find a nice place to fish someone recks it.
Moreton Bay was the same until they drought the zone's into play.
We would have to be one of the most governed societies in the world.
I buy my permits and follow the rules and they change the goal post's again. :x

Well it seems reasonable to me. It is only temporary.

Mate, I wouldn't push it with this, the reason they are shutting the gates is because of idiots that are camping where they shouldn't and signs say no camping anywhere from what I can tell, much discussed on ausfish.
As Jake says, it's only temporary, and the result will be much improved facilities and surrounding areas may have grass again.
Also worth noting that fisheries have been VERY active in the area, not saying anyone on here would break the rules, but just be aware that while in the past this dam has gone unwatched, recently many fines have been handed out to fools that didn't expect to get caught.

I am sweet just want to jnow how long they call temp.
I know there a few idiots that don't follow the rules ie Large motors and the 6knot thing i know i nearlly got run over last week by a bloke in a tinny who was flying bow in the air i am just luccky he seen my paddle or it could have been nasty. His wash was bad enough once he turned. I will be a better spot once the grass grow's etc. Lets hope they open it to camping in the future even if you have to pay a few bucks to throw a tent out (i dought it).
Any how the fishing is still good and this closure might make it quieter for those who will still haunt the Dam. Hey Mick i will PM you with my days off.

From what i understand the closure is being done so as they can finish the landscaping and other works around the campsites. Apparently there have been some idiots out there ripping down signs and barrier fencing and just being total pains in the arse. There had also been talk about a full time ranger being situated out there.
