im guess im still getting used to fishing in a yak.
there just seemed soooo much going on with rods anchors nets baits fish knives tackle and waves  . i havent yet worked out the best method to keep things simple when fishing km's out in the kayak...but im slowly getting there.
At 1 stage i hooked a little flattie who de-hooked himself in my yak, which in itself was great, but with about 2" water in the yak from a couple of over eager waves the bloody 'lil fish swam under my seat (gave me a great idea for a 'live bait well') ,oh well i knew he wasnt going anywhere and 20 minutes later sure enough he swims back out.i was killing myself laffing. another time another little fish, got him in the yak where he proceded to thrash and throw himself all around the yak and snagged the hook on my leg, anchor rope and tackle bag. BASTARD  , so now im getting occasionally swamped with waves (kayak kept swinging round so it was side on to waves) the other rod was showing signs of having hooked up and ive got a devil of a flattie aiming to hook up to anything it can in the yak...fishing with 2 rods can be a hell of a job when the fish are on the bite. I had also bought a squid jig and wanted to try my hand at catching a squid but with the conditions there was no bloomin way.next time maybe.
And im wondering how many of you other yakko's have paddled around only to find you left the anchor out and just dragged it the last km... i couldnt work it out, i was buggered and thought it was a hell of an effort until i turned around to drop anchor...and its already in the water  .

Geez i love this sht.

Things we do in the name of fun...

My worst rooky mistake was being overturned by a 35cm bream. Had him in a keeper net on the front deck (SIK) whilst paddling. Turned to check the lure I was draging, and the bag slipped off , creating a decent drag, and tipping me over. Thankfully no-one saw it. Only lost the cheap rod, while the 2 exy ones were still in the holders. Mind you the $450 prescroption sunnies went to the bottom.

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. Smurfsmuggla, I had a laugh (sorry) at what ya saying. I often only have one rod with line out as I find two can make too many problems for me.

It's safe to have one line out and have the other rod with its lure safely hooked up out of the way on a line guide. Well, . . . not always. I reached over my shoulder for the rod with no line out as I wanted to flick out a cast to a likely spot, only to get jabbed by the lure which I had hooked on the lowest line guide. So, no matter what ya do, you can expect a little strife every now and then.

Every time ya survive going out and coming back in a yak doing fishing, its a time to celebrate!

had a jolly good chuckle myself 'Red (once i had got my breath back), as for throwing my legs over the side mate, id rather suffer a nasty hook injury than have something take my leg off below the knee  .
and Celebrate i do Troppo, with a couple of cold beers, and then a couple more...
Aleg75 - scary thing is i enjoyed the experience...hook in the leg and all
sounds like you were reel lucky the 2 rods held in their holders Clarko, damn that was an expensive pair of persciption glasses. I ruined $1000- worth of stuff on my 1st outing...so i know how that felt.

cheers Tony.
