Onya mate. If you keep getting runs a hookup is sure to follow. Were you using a two hook rig? I used to favour a hook through the top of the tube and one either free hanging in between the tentacles or in embedded the two longest tentacles. I have also successfully fished a three hook sliding rig with the bottom hook fixed and the top two bound to the line in the same manner you bind a guide to a rod. I would have the top hook in the top of the tube, the middle in the head and the bottom fixed hook either free swinging amongst the tentacles or embedded in one of the two long tentacles. These days I am paranoid about fishing multi hook rigs in the yak as I fish alone as I am yet to find a Tassie yak fisho that wants to have a lash at some bigger fish and as such am paranoid about getting a hook in the hand, thus making me unable to paddle.

Catch ya Scott

Sitting on the beach at Long Reef this morning, watching my daughter who has just taken up nippers this year, and kicking myself for not joining you. Weren't the conditions just perfect - sunny, 1m swell, no wind to speak of.

Hard luck getting no fish, but at least you had some interest. Catch you out there soon.

Well, didn't do too bad. I had a couple of drifts using small squid baits between Bluefish and North Head. I caught a nice Morwong of around a kilo (my first ever keeper in Aus and was fantastic on the BBQ) along with three sargent bakers and a wrasse. After drifting around North Head for a hour I decided to head up to Bluefish and find out how everyone else was doing.

Just as I arrived the *****'s appeared in their masses. Took one ***** straight away and it put up a great fight on my lightest rod. Fish was netted and unhooked and then waited a couple of minutes for Gatesy to come back to take photo's. Got the photo taken and was just about to put the fish back in the net and reach for the "priest" to administer last rights, when Mr ***** decided to give a bit of a kick and earned his freedom.......aaaarrrrggghhhh    . My second ever decent sized fish (the first was the Mowie an hour before) since I moved to Aus and it was gone  . Ah well, I already had a decent feed.

The Sambos were breaking the surface everywhere so I set about getting another one, but could get close enough to make a cast. This is where Gatesy's Hobie fins came into their own as he had hands free (I want one!) to make the casts, where I had to paddle, stow paddle, grab rod then cast, it was just too slow..... ......needs some fins for the yak!! Got some abuse from one stinkboater who asked me if I wanted a lure in my head as he drifted away from the school and I went towards it! No more hook up's but was amazed to see so many fish crashing the surface. Great fun :D :D :D . Had one last drift at the end of Bluefish and pulled up the smallest Flattie you will ever see, it was about 10cm's and was taken on a 1/0 hook(no photo)  ! Had me laughing my head off!!!!

Here's some photo's

Hi Guys,

It was good to see the turn out yesterday morning, must admit I had a pretty ordinary day, in fact by the time I actually managed to get underway I should have just gone home. I am a real believer in karma an should have listened to the inner being.

1. Arrived first at the car park and got the last official parking place - GOOD

2. Got set up and down to the water in time for Kraley to come in from the mothership - GOOD

3. Before getting onto the water broke the neck strap on the sunnies - BAD.

4. After launching and having a pedal around went back to the beach to swap the mirage drive for a set of turbo's for a test drive. In the process of swapping the units I managed to snag my shirt on a HB lure. The ensuing pantomime culminated in me having to cut every leg of 2 treble hooks off to free the shirt not before I had managed to put 6 decent sized holes in it from trying to free the hooks. - VERY BAD.

That was about it for the day, trolled out past North Head without a touch on what are typically reliable lures and swore at some stink boats for their antics. The icing on the cake for me was to watch a guy drop a very good salmon (3kg) trying to lift it into a boat, it wasn't as if they didn't have a net with them either.
