Well, I signed off on one of the goals for this season by getting my first decent bream from the Minamurra on, you guessed it, a bloody SX 40. Picked one up in Sydney last weekend & it did the trick nicely.
I fished towards the front of the river this week & after scouting a couple of guys in a stink boat getting some decent bream a few weeks ago I did what any self respecting fisho would do and copied. I paddled around where they were previously fishing with the fishfinder on & lo & behold discovered a nice deep hole.
I anchored on the edge of the drop off & cast the SX 40 into the hole (they cast really well).
Took me about 15-20 casts trialing different retrieves, but using a slow retrieve I got a good hit, not much action in the run at first but then a big long run & that unmistakable feel of a bream, I was fishing 2 kg & he put up a really good fight, diving deep each time he come anywhere near the surface, at one point taking a run straight for the bank towards a few snags, I tightened the drag slightly & managed to turn him. It seemed to take most of the fight out of fish with it coming back to the yak easily, one last dive near the yak but got the rod tip up & into the net.
Great fun,
Cheers
