What is the right way to store a Kayak.
Having seen some pics of deformed hulls due to incorrect storage :?:
How should it be done :?:

Cant speak for the other brands but the Hobie Outback manual explains its best to store your kayak on edge, upside down, standing on end or hanging on its edges ( They do fail to mention why though ), guess that could be put down to common knowledge.

I store my Hobie on its side were it feels the strongest and seems to be able to distribute the brunt of the weight correctly, not sure what the other Hobie owners do with there Adventures, Outbacks etc etc.

Mine sits outside and upside down on the grass at the moment. I cover it with the old tinnie boat cover to help stop UV ray damage.
I will buy a couple of those wood work horses at Bunnings this weekend to raise her off the ground and place some flat pool noodle on the wood blocks for protection.

i spoke to the dealer i bought the espri off about the best way to store , he told me viking reccomend on end, i.e, stern on the ground and bow in the air against a wall, you would have to have high ceilings to do that , i am going to store on its side held in 3 places with straps hanging from the garage cross beams, i hope this is o.k

Ian both my yaks are stored outside on side [as paffoh's pic] and on a couple of 6x4 blocks of timber, they are draped with shadecloth.

I'm not a fan of tarps or similar, because of the intense heat generated underneath, and the shadecloth gives some shelter with out generating anymore heat.

If outdoors its vital to loosen your bung so the air can equalise, or you get a 4m balloon.

No sign of problems after a year, but of course under shelter is better storage

I know the dealer in melbourne stored the vikings on the side when i picked the espri up . I store mine on my yak stand these days.

Hey bigbazoo , i had a floptus problem once. They sacked me when i was on long service leave while they were cutting the tech numbers a while back.
