Quietman reporting from Southern California...
8)
First time in a long time I had trouble getting to sleep, I was so pumped knowing I was going out in the morning with a great chance of nailing a Dodo from the yak...

Loaded for bear...or well, you know...

Launched Dana Point 06:00, cleared the harbor with decent bait about 07:15.

I was on a mission to hook, fight and land a Dodo from the Kayak, and went solo, so rigged accordingly.

I headed more or less at the 279, using my "leave late and leach" strategy again. I came across a single boat working a paddy in 68* water about 6 miles out, he said it was going on 8-10 yellowtail. Not what I was after... I kept going...

The water inched up in temp into the 70-72 range, and I turned south on a heading to pass inside the 209, a few miles past the "zone" that has been working the past couple of weeks.

I spotted quite a gaggle of boats a bit further out, and investigated. I found a smallish paddy far outside the main group, 74* water, 18.5 miles out from shore, and tossed some chunk bait and put out a couple of sardines to see if anyone was home. No one else looked busy.

THE GAGGLE:

Within minutes a hen dodo comes flying out of the water and a reel is singing, I brought her in quick and let her hang, tossed more chunk and:

1. Feverishly rigged the Yak,

2. Tossed the drift-chute (it was a little windy, and a long paddle back)

3. Grabbed my smallest (duh) rod/reel, a shimano corsiar 400, pinned a bait, grabbed the camera and started paddling...

...actually, almost... I tried to bounce the little hen, broke off. The other rod reel goes off, pulled the hook on the set...

Anyway did not matter, I paddled not even 50 yards toward the kelp and let fly with my one and only bait. It hit the water and never stopped, put the reel in gear and SPLASH! Game ON!

It was almost anti-climatic the fight, all I cared about was not screwing it up. Then I realized i forgot my gaff. I started paddling back to Bender, But then decided to go over to a nice cabin cruiser and borrow one from them, plus get them to shoot pictures, which I did!

balancing act...

THE SHOT!

Trying to bite me WHERE?

BLOODY DECKS!

I thanked my benefactors and gave 'em back thier gaff, then paddled over to bender to get my bait tube, more deans and get another one!

Bender looking lonely...

No love, so back in bender and put the yak on a custom bridle I designed and made in 10 minutes the night before:rofl: . Worked great.

Slow trolled deans and picked up another nice one.

Number Four.

Decided to hand-off my bait and blast for home to make it to my 6 year old daughter's T-Ball Game at 1:30pm.

Running for Home...
