gday all
ive been surfing the net for a bit looking at likely kayaks. I know this is no substitute for seeing them in the plastic, but id like to have some idea before asking my dad for a lift or riding to some place to take a look.

2 Kayaks that have sort of caught my eye a bit - a wavedance calypso, and a viking espri.
theres been a lot written about the viking espri on this site, and it sounds the goods.
i havent heard much of the wavedance calypso, but they look pretty good in the photos.

basically id be going fishing with a small tackle box, crate for fish, some bait, a rod and a handline. occasionally ill use the craft to spear, but atm im happy just swimming out as my favourtie spots are less than 200m from the beach, so its not too much of a priority
what do you think?
cheers

Hi Nick , both of those kayaks are excellent craft, i have an espri and love it, mind you i sometimes get a bit frustrated with the slower speed than my sea kayak , but overall i find it to be really good and fantastic value for the money, cant comment really on the wavedance , but that kayak looks very good also and i would say would be possibly a little faster over the water than the espri, but both would make good fishing platforms for what you want

Nick, I am in the Western Suburbs, if you can get over here you are welcome to try my Espri.
There is a Viking distributor over here, I am sure he would be happy to help.

many thanks for the offer Ian..
however, i don't think i'll be taking you up on it for 2 reasons..
first one being that western suburbs are too far for me to travel to really.
second, is that im tending to lean towards a calypso - theres a wavedance place in seaford (closeish) and the calypso will be cheaper than an espri.

thanks for all the help.
cheers
