JD, I must confess to having a partiality to pictures of AKFF Swings and yours looks great mate, like the value you have got out of the footrests with the addition of your gear.

Nice setup

Yeah Dodge
I've tried to keep the hole drilling to a minimum. Cable ties are a great way to attach bits and pieces, and Velcro is a big help.

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. If you are desperate for the old content of this particular post, it is available below base64 encoded and bzip2 compressed.

Yeah been out a few times. Not a lot of fish caught yet.
Got most things sorted out, still not sure what I'll do with any big fish. Guess I'll have to catch them first. I'm used to having a big esky (chilly bin--NZ) in my tinnie. Kind of cramped in the kayak. Also have to reduce the amount of lures etc that I take.

All good fun

What a top idea with placing your knife and pliers there, out of the way while still being very accessible to unhook or bleed a fish. It's great when someone comes up with great ideas and shares them. Top fit out and hope you do hook that big one. :D

Hi JD,

its always good to see another Swing fitout. Although they lack some of the features of the current fishing kayaks on the market they are a good platform to customise for your own particular needs.

Did you go for a 8" rear hatch. I did have to ask Phil twice when he quoted the price of a Perception 10" hatch.

Neat job, JD. You've given me some ideas.

Grant, earlier this year I fitted a 10" hatch to my Swing & I only paid $25 for the hatch 'kit'. I got it from an agricultural supplies shop & is actually a (3/4 turn) screw in lid for a spray tank. That plus the cost of 6 stainless screws and a tube of sealant was far preferable to the around $150 I was quoted for a genuine hatch. There's even a flexible/stretchy rubber slip on hatch/lid available for not a lot more. I've not noticed any water leakage into the hull from this hatch, even though it was designed to keep water in.

I had posted info on this with the details but has been pruned from the forum. If anyone wants to find one, post a request or PM me. I have a few pics of my job
