Total 5 inches if padding. I have done over 6 miles in a day. This is no touring yak either. Took my friends Tarpon140 out with standard high dollar seat and in a couple of hours my butt was numb. This seat is a Boat seat, I just removed the mount and installed a bungee cord, wallah! It's also my favorite color.

How much stability did you loose raising your seating position that amount? I raised mine an inch with some nice soft closed call foam attached to the bottom of my paddling seat with velco and didn't notice any stability loss but have been told that every inch you raise your seat you loose X amount (can't remember the figure quoted) of stability.

I lost alot but the cater is wide and I re-learned my balance. I am also not a large man but a short compact so it's easier for me.

Hi Tex,
I reckon your onto something there.make the base out of upside down stable table. That should lower it a bit. Grab an old office chair and take legs off and away ya go. :p
