·I fished Iluka again over the weekend concentrated around the coast guard building and up to the wall on the run out hoping for some flathead, I drifted a couple of plastics for an hour or two each day with the results being a total of six flathead to 45cm (all released) as the drift speed increased with the tide I noticed the lighter of the sp setups was getting lots of small hits so I brought it in and noticed lots of gar hitting the lure, so I rerigged and started catching those on a cut down live bait jig I ended up with enough to stock the freezer with some nice sized baits for a few trips. Although the fish werent big I had a great time catching them and they will hopefully turn into something better.
I didnt have enough time for a trip outside, but the neighbours had plenty of mackerel after fishing a couple of hundred metres off the end of the Yamba wall early on saturday morning before the wind picked up.
I'll be down again next weekend as I have some work to do down there but I wont be in the kayak as I have no free time in the days, so it will have to be a bit of night fishing from the wall or the Bluff if conditions ease up.
