Paul
You have gone "all in" on a bluff and they called. Its time to turn your cards over and hope you get some relief on the turn and the river
If i have lost you, that ok. What i was saying is it is a long time before February comes around and things might change for either you or them in that time. I am assuming you have not signed a contract or anything!
If you get to feb and decide you really don't want the job then say "NO, sorry for leading you down the garden path but its really not what i want at this point in time - i retired for a reason i need to take stock of those reasons". whats the worst they can do other then call you a range of expletives :?:
good luck mate, look forward to catching up on saturday and remember your only young once Paul so enjoy your fishing

Had you reached 10 years before you attempted to resign cause i was thinking that the long service leave pay out could buy some pretty cool power tools and yak accessories
