Hi,
Heard about a good spot to kayak fish by launching from Pointings bridge Lowood and am looking for more information on this bridge as in how do I find it in relation to Lowood township etc..

I can see the creek on google maps but the bridges are not named.

Any help appreciated.

It's on the north side of Lowood as you head towards Patrick estate and Coominya.

Access via southern approach to the bridge. If it hasn't been wet , you can drive a 2wd car down beneath the bridge.

Lockyer creek is not flowing much in the that part, it's the backed up water from O'reillys weir. After rain can be very dirty, Lockyer valley farmers are good at losing their topsoil.

It's has some prime fish habitat but low level stocking with bass only occurred last summer. Has a good resident population of Eel-tailed catfish. When Wivenhoe is releasing water at more than 8 meters, the Brisbane backs up over the top of the weir. Have been a few whispers of good bass in the area since Wivy has had a couple of such events since 2011.

And yes , even though it has a useless fish ladder on O'reillys weir, the Lockyer does fall under the closed season regs.

Cheers,
Dave.
