hey guys,

Felt withdrawal symptoms and pretty upset I couldnt get to the cressbrook trip, so managed to get a morning session in at Hinze Dam. I did something a bit different this time, actually took my little brother in the back of the swing hehe.

We arrived at 5am and started the long paddle down to the island.
Fished until 9.30 landing 14 Bass and losing a couple more.
Again the winner was the Jackall TN60 / Kokoda G-vibes. All fish were taken on these lures.

I initially tried various divers and spinnerbaits, both cast and trolled for nothing much, i thought i better change when my little brother was 6-0 on me hehe.

here are some of the pics

one more thing i was surprised with how dirty these bass were, every single fish would try to brick you into the twigs. lost at least one lure to a snag with a fish on it.

all fish were over 30 biggest close to 37

Great Report

I want to have a fish there soon, the island you talk about is that Ian's Island?

Where did you launch from?

Other than the SIP do I need another permit for this dam?

Nice way to welcome the new kayak, well done :D

Cheers

Good result guys!

Sel, we were expecting you at Cressbrook... With regards to Hinze you need a special Hinze permit which you can buy from the Kiosk at the main dam entrance.

I've been put off a bit fishing Hinze ever since they reported high mercury levels in the bass there. Still good fun for catch & release I suppose.

thanks guys,

yeah they sure go hard on light gear,

Mac Fish - the island I speak of is Ians Island, I launched from the western ramp near the wall, i thinks its about 4km down to the back of the island,
its a bit of a hike especially if its windy but worth it if the fish are there.

You dont need the SIP to fish Hinze, unfortunately its on its own permit,
these are aboyt 5 bucks for a weekly pass or $40 for a year i think.

great spot to fish mate, unreal scenery and the Prettiest Dam Ive fished by a long way. Stoked its so close to home.

Ben , great report, you certainly are a fine young man looking after your young brother, great fish, you have made me envious having a bass spot like that, i bet you found some extra muscles you didnt know you had with 2 of you on the swing, says a lot for the swings stability, thanks for sharing Ben :D :D :D

Ben good to see the home dam was working for you on the weekend and what a great result mate, by the way its 6.5kms return to Ians Island from the spillway ramp where you launched.

Those bloody jackalls again, guess I'll have to buy one and hope I don't do a wongus and lose one every trip

Sel if you ever want a Hinze permit PM me your details and I can get one at the tackle shop 5mins from my place and post to you, as the dam facilities don't open until office hours which is no good for an early start
