Heya Brad,

A mate and I had a bit of a fish in Lake Tinaroo from the yaks, it was the middle of winter and the fishing was very slow, a nil result all round so I cant say what it is like to hook one from a yak.

I think it can definately be done though, if you are worried about it in the sticks you could probably deploy a sea anchor (drift sock) to stop a big Barra pulling you into the twigs and give you a bit more pull.

One of the Gold Coast boys from this forum was talking about a trip to Awoonga in November during the full moon, I'd say we'll have a report before the end of the month

Many of those 1 m fish are caught from deep water using fish finders to find those big bait balls and the big predators. Long way from the trees in the water along the banks so good chance of bringing in one of em. That is if they ever tire! I reckon that a team approach by a couple of yak fishos would probably do well. Maybe a strategy of searching with fish finders doing a path 200 metres parallel then converging when something likely is found and drag some lures through em. Maybe two yaks involved in the C & R as they are biggies. What do ya reckon?

l fished the faust dam this time last year with lures. Picked up a sooty grunter only. She wasn't too pretty back then. Threr are some great snags accessible there if you can paddle to the other side from the car park.
