Before I went up north I worked on improving my yak and I am reasonably pleased with the set up now. The photos show some of the changes
A carrying handle just forward of the seat, made of seat belt webbing and bolted through the hull with big washers. Can bear the load but still think I need another on the port side .
I rigged up a sounder. The sounder is attached to the raised section just in front of the seat by using some recycled velcro straps off some old sandals, and sits on a section of old rubber thong
The transducer has been mounted on a wooden block on the transom, held in place by a yellow strap when in use, and seems to work well. I had to drill a holein the hull to feed the transducer lead forward, the hole is partially sealed by a rubber grommet

The rather crude rod holders are an old feature before I saw Dan's fish box arrangement

You've set her up well Guy.

I have side handles both sides on my yaks, but find I only ever use the one side so the other side is a bit of a waste; I use both hands in the handle and the yak lays across my thighs to carry easily.

You've got a great setup Guy. Your viking is a great fishing machine and totally ready for bumpier water.

Mate, you'd be surprised at just how stable that yak is out there and besides, there's enough people on this forum who would be stoked to keep an eye out for a fellow paddling buddy in Sydney Harbour.
